Planning : Choosing a location

Image
Location for the shoot was key, as it had to embody everything that the film was about. Firstly the location had to be visually aesthetic as it would be appearing in a cinema format. This meant it had to have a very symmetrical look. The theme of the film is about the lessons of life, and therefore I thought it would only be appropriate to set the film in a school / college. The building has a lot of greenery surrounding which can be indicative of the idea of new life, and beginnings within the story. The old bricks can represent how old and fragile life is and that It could go at any time.  The ideal location for the film would be Wroxton Abbey, as it has all these attributes including acres of green that would be excellent for wide and drone shots. This alongside with the fact that it comes with a library and many classrooms that we can use to film particular scenes for the trailer. This why by choosing this location we can achieve that cinema quality look alongside with a bi...

initial research : Chosen Genre And Its Conventions

Prior to starting any form of production on this A2 project, I knew that this year I wanted to test myself. As a default I would resort to shooting comedy or action, or something within those lines. However, as I am pursuing a career in the film industry - creating something that is outside the general scope of what I am used to means that I can push myself as a Filmmaker. I was inspired by the Academy Award winning film  'The Theory Of Everything' which blends the drama and romance genres together. Genre  Romance is generally a concept driven heavily towards the female demographic as stereotypically females are known to be the more emotionally attached of the two sex(s) this could imply that females may be more likely to become more emotionally invested in the plot line. Conventionally female characters in romances are given lead roles as it appeals to the female psyche - by having a point of reference that they can fall into. Males however, are usually given roles as the...

Planning : Location Recce

Location Recce.  This is Wroxton College, an old rustic college. That has very cinematic elements the reason that I have chosen this location is due to to the simple fact that with the theme of  "A Game Called Life " is all about lessons so therefore it would appropriate to set this Film in a school.

Planning : Final Idea

A Game Called Life   " We're all players in this game called life " Original Film A game called life, is a coming of age movie. About how the choices you make have a direct impact on how your life turns out. For a lot of people, they cruise along life not really sure where they are going or even where they are going to end up. Those people are commonly referred to as losers by society, and for smaller percentage of people who end making something of their lives earn the title of winners. But regardless of that title you are given - this movie teaches us that life is a cruel mistress that will beat the strongest man down.   Because regardless of whether you win or lose, we are all on the chessboard of life. Players in a game that we have no control over.   This film will address many universal problems that a lot of people will encounter in their short lives. These include; Depression, Heartbreak and Death.  Many of these themes will touc...

Planning : Mood Boards

Image
Mood Boards.  The film will be set inside a school and will aim to replicate similar lighting/colour grading choices found in 'The Theory Of Everything' and ' X-Men'. The wide choices of lenses create a shallower depth of field on more important scenes, and this is crucial in drawing attention in more important scenes.  The mood boards also directly correlate with the chosen genre of the film which is romance/coming of age. Illustrated by the use of softer colours and brighter tones.

Initial Research: Chosen Media & Conventions

Chosen Media For my A2 piece of media coursework I will be creating a 2 minute film trailer.  I want to create an effective product that achieves the brief that we have chosen from the exam board, for me to do this I need to conduct further research into the conventions of my chosen product and what makes them successful when creating awareness of a films release.   A film trailer is a technique that gives advanced publicity for a film by releasing extracts of the film giving hints towards the narrative, whilst leaving out certain facts which encourages viewers to watch the full film when it's released.   Also a film trailer is created around 3-6 months prior to a films release in cinema. Stereotypically a film trailer is shown in the cinema before another film but it is also shown on different types of social media sites e.g Facebook, giving film trailers a chance to be viewed by a large demographic. They are usually made up of a montage of clips...
